Abstract
The counter-weight block is one of the reinforcing countermeasures for breakwaters against waves and tsunamis. CWB has a vertical through-hole in the center of the block, which is filled with inner stones. Usually, natural stones of hard class are used for the inner stones. Recently, it is becoming difficult to procure high-quality natural stones. In addition, conservation of natural resources and utilization of By-products are getting important more and more. This study investigated to apply artificial stones made of the steel slag hydrated matrix as inner stones of CWB. The model test was carried out to evaluate the friction factor of CWB using artificial stones as inner stones. In the test result, it was confirmed that artificial stones can be used for the inner stones of CWB, such as natural stones.
